Depop Ditches Seller Fees to Encourage Sustainable Shopping

Depop Introduces Zero Selling Fees!

Depop, the popular app for buying and selling secondhand clothing, is making a big change to its fee structure in an effort to promote more sustainable sales. Depop has eliminated seller fees for users in the UK, putting more money back in the pockets of those who are giving pre-loved clothes a new life.

This move comes into effect in April 2024 and applies to all newly listed items. Previously, Depop charged sellers a 10% commission on each sale. By scrapping this fee, Depop hopes to incentivize users to sell more on their platform, increase the selection of available items, and attract a wider audience.

💡 Be sure to delist/relist your items so the new zero-fee structure is applied to all of your items.

Buyers on Depop Will Pay a Small Fee

However, Depop isn't completely eliminating fees. To make up for the lost revenue and fund ongoing improvements, they are introducing a new marketplace fee of up to 5% for buyers. This fee will be applied to all UK Depop purchases. This is a relatively small fee, so do not be too concerned about the impact on buyers.

According to Depop, the additional income from the buyer fee will go towards "continued investment across the Depop marketplace." This includes improvements to buyer protection programs, customer support, and initiatives to grow the Depop community.

Overall, Depop's decision to eliminate seller fees is a positive step towards a more circular fashion industry. By making it more financially rewarding to sell secondhand, Depop is encouraging sustainable shopping habits and giving pre-loved items a second chance. The buyer fee helps to balance this initiative and ensure Depop can continue to operate and improve the platform.
